Published 27 January 2014 Accommodation Policy Accommodation has the potential to cause great angst for the organisers and riders alike. This policy is intended to provide clarity on motivations and expectations with regards to accommodation on Zoo2Zoo events.
Every Zoo2Zoo event travels through and is accommodated in small country towns. It is a key characteristic of the rides we wish to maintain as over the years Zoo2Zoo have developed close relationships with the regional communities we visit. The capacity of each event is generally restricted by the extent of accommodation available at the conclusion of each day. This can fluctuate year to year and is out of the control of Zoo2Zoo. Event size can fluctuate each year as a result. Zoo2Zoo will restrict registrations to fit the accommodation available in the interests of the comfort, enjoyment and safety of participants.
Participants can expect that accommodation will be comfortable and clean, but should be aware that types of accommodation can vary. Accommodation on Zoo2Zoo events includes hotels (pubs), motels, bed and breakfasts, cabins, caravans, and rented houses. For the Canberra-Mogo Zoo2Zoo, in Majors Creek, we all stay in a converted rail carriage which is part of the adventure.
The majority of accommodation on Zoo2Zoo events will be shared.
Accommodation allocations settled by Zoo2Zoo are not negotiable. Zoo2Zoo will attempt to co-locate groups of friends, however, there are limitations on our capacity to do this and it is possible that you will be accommodated with someone from the ride you have not previously met. There is ample opportunity to socialise with your friends and other participants at the social events.
For safety and evacuation purposes, it is mandatory that you stay where allocated. It is not acceptable to swap your accommodation. When you arrive at your allocated accommodation, make yourself aware of your accommodation’s evacuation plan and meeting point.
In limited situations, Zoo2Zoo may offer billeted accommodation. This will generally apply to persons who are late entrants and have accepted participation on the basis that the usual standards are not able to be met. This is an option which riders may or may not wish to accept. In short we are allowing participation on the basis that accommodation is not provided and subject to the discretion and initiative of each rider. Your understanding and flexibility in upholding this policy and the underlying principles of Zoo2Zoo events as fun, challenging, charity based cycling adventures, is appreciated.
Thank you for understanding On behalf of the Zoo2Zoo Committee
